AAK Villa, Bahrain: Light as architectural complement

The selection of several Vibia light models integrated with the sophisticated architectural configuration of this villa located on the sandy shores of Bahrain reflects the emphasis on scale, proportion and the integration of nature and the man-made by architects Riyaz Quraishi and Simeen Quraishi.

This residential project for a wealthy client who is also a keen chef and loves to entertain friends and family creates a lavish interior with highly controlled views over the Persian Gulf directly outside. The linear site is book-ended between two adjacent houses and has direct access to the beach front. The house is organised over three storeys with the main reception rooms on the ground floor.

Feature lamps by Vibia such as Rhythm, Wireflow and Balance have been used for the more public reception areas of the house. The main dining table is crowned by Rhythm, its sculptural fins complements the pivoting timber screens.

The architectural drama of the triple height atrium is captured by Wireflow, evoking the glamour and beauty of the classic chandelier in a contemporary reinterpretation. Balance provides just the right degree of warmth to the salon with its timber ceiling detail. Accent and task lamp fittings such as Suite and Skan are provided in the more private spaces of this luxurious residence.

The palette of materials such as grey stone cladding, travertine flooring and wood creates a neutral environment where the light, both natural and artificial as well as the handpicked rugs and furniture elements are displayed to maximum effect.
