The Making of Curtain: Streaming Light

Arik Levy explores unchartered territory with CURTAIN, a new lighting typology that combines direct light from a LED source with a vertical diffusion. Levy describes the suspended fitting as an installation rather than merely a lamp, “curtain is a collection that is beyond light, it’s light but it’s also space and architecture.”

CURTAIN is a flexible and versatile lamp that combines spatial definition and lighting with a product that is equally impacting as a single unit or combination of units to create lighting configurations. Its innovation is defined by the combination of elements, LED, fabric and suspension cables. “A toolbox with which you can construct and deconstruct what you want to do in space.”

One of the most challenging aspects of the design was the fabric, to find the right texture that would ensure the correct diffusion of light from bottom to top or top to bottom, the treatment of the light was inspired by the way sunlight streams through a curtain. There are two colours choices for the final screen fabric and two options for the aluminium profile that houses the LED light source.
