Home / The Edit Projects Vibia lighting complements a contemporary private residence in Barcelona Barcelona based studio, Verdadera Magnitud, was commissioned to improve the design and distribution of a stunning private residence located in central Barcelona. Architect Mateu Subirà Ramoneda reduces the number of bedrooms and expands the existing spaces to reveal a new open floor plan. For the redecoration, interior designer Carlota Portavella introduces soothing natural aesthetics enhanced by a range of elegant lighting solutions from Vibia. The new owner wanted a large room with soft light, opening up the day-area so that they could enjoy the activities from the kitchen. Both in the dining room and in the kitchen, the dividing walls were removed to achieve visual permeability from facade to facade. In the living room, wooden panelling, soft furnishings and decorative wallpaper create a warm and comfortable atmosphere. To illuminate the dining area, Portavella selects a pair of Skan pendants, designed by Lievore, Altherr and Molina. Skan is balanced and refined, a return to the essential. It features a fine cable and slender diffuser, concealing a high-performance LED-powered lightsource. Potavella opts for a Terra Red finish, a soothing tone that integrates easily with the apartment’s laid back style. Suspended in perfect symmetry, the pair lends an understated elegance to the space, illuminating the table with a warm, broad downlight. In the living room, Portavella selects a Pin table lamp to illuminate the sideboard. A timeless proposal from Japanese designer Ichiro Iwasaki, Pin is both classic and contemporary. Finished in soft matte-white, its graceful stem and aluminium dome shade integrate with the adjacent wallpaper. In the bedrooms, access to the bathrooms was improved and more dressing room space was added. A specific space was allocated for the laundry room with direct access to the gallery. A second fixture illuminates the bedside table in the first bedroom. Featuring an adjustable head with an LED-powered light source, the Pin table lamp is small in scale but with exceptional lighting efficiency, perfect for reading. A third Pin is tucked into the corner of the bedroom, warming the foot of the bed with its soft glow. In dialogue with the bedside reading lamp, the elongated stem of the floor lamp version draws a tall straight line before delicately arching over to support a matching dome shade. Positioned freely, the fixture promises to bring light wherever it is needed. Moving into the master suite, Portavella opts for a pair of Mayfair table lamps, their soothing matte-white finish complementing the textured wallpaper, beige furnishings and wood flooring. Designed by Diego Fortunato, Mayfair is perfectly proportioned. Featuring a sleek steel stem and shade, its sophisticated silhouette is defined by an intriguing play of lean lines and curved contours. Positioned either side of the bed on a shelf above the headboard, the pair casts pools of diffuse downlight that creates an intimate ambience. A small opening at the top of each shade balances the LED-powered brightness below by lending a subtle radiance to the stem above.
